Joo Siah Bak Koot Teh @ Yuehua Market

Hello! I know you must be REALLY HAPPY to see my blog post again within just a short period of time! WOW! JESSIE IS REALLY HARDWORKING this time! Give me a pat on my back!!! (okay, i admit lah, i was cleaning my lap top and found these pictures that i have taken but haven gotten the time to post!)

Okay, you must be wondering, where on earth is this Yuehua Market… none other than Jurong East! Hmmm the market is in between Jurong East and Chinese Garden… So i suggest you either drive, talk a 15min walk, take a bus or … just read my post and drool! (so EVIL!)

Okay, so here am i presenting to you another Hawker Stall that i found, recommended by my boss! Tada~

Joo Siah Bak Koot Teh

IMG_0517

I seldom eat Bak Kut Teh at hawker centers, nor Char Kueh Teow, simply because i only eat the BEST! (so ya ya papaya hor!!! hahaha…) Okay, till now i only ‘LIKE’ two bak kut teh, one at Balestier another at Sing Ming Road… so this is a NEW stall that i have ‘LIKE’! :) This particular stall is SUPER BUSY during lunch hour, so prepare to wait a little longer… while waiting, while smelling the aroma of the garlic meaty soup!

A little story about Yue Hua Market:

IMG_0521

If you have been following the news, yuehua market is one of the very first hawker that adopt the healthier choice of whole grains rice and noodle for some of the stalls. Okay, please don’t expect healthier choice for Bak Kut Teh! Though they do have this hilarious sign board! hahaha…

AWESOME BAK KUT TEH! (Rating: 3.0/5.0)

IMG_0522

Wooohooo! i love my bak Kut with a thin layer of fats! Yes! Else they taste too ‘Ziar’, i don’t like! hahaha… their soup base is very clear, very garlic and peppery, very thin layer of meaty smell… Love it!

Mui Cai / Cai Bei (Rating: 2.3/5.0)

IMG_0524

Zhu Jiao / Pork Trotter (Rating: 2.5/5.0)

IMG_0526

Bak Kut Teh never completes without this mui cai and pork trotter! They are like the three musketeers, partner in crime to make people fat! hahaha… anyway i think the mui cai is not soft and not salty enough… As for the Zhu Jiao, wha firm and big looking, marinated just nice! The sauce is simple awesome when it goes with the rice! :) Remember to tell the aunty you would like to have more meat or more fats (you know it is actually not the fats but the jiao jin)… :)

Mixed Pig Organ (Rating: 2.5/5.0)

IMG_0528

Okay Jian Ren Jian Zhi, i love their mixed organ soup, they actually used the same soup base as their bak kut teh, but with the kidney and lung, they made the soup a little more ‘Xin’ then usual… But still, very clear soup base! NICE!

Lastly, good food must come with a reasonable price tag! (see, i am so good, i don’t just introduce you nice food but food that are friendly to your wallet!) :)

IMG_0520

okay, i do recommend this Bak Kut Teh… If you are well verse, there are two different kinds of soup base, one white and one black… I love those white soup base! If i never remember wrongly, the white soup base are the Teowchew style! Peppery and a little garlic makes the soup clear and yummy! :) Come and try this stall! I give thumbs up! But of course my all time fav is still SING MING ROAD! Next time, i shall give a review on that!!! :))

Okay… this is not  complaining, soul searching entry! hahaha… before you say i am EMO! :) Today i am going to introduce to you a CHEAP, VERY NICE, VERY EFFICIENT & FAST …… ZHI CHAR~ When the car turned in, i was like ‘WHA SO ULU’ but I LIKE!

Two Chefs Eating Place

IMG_0760

Anyway, the place is super crowded with loads of people! Don’t believe? I show you!

IMG_0761

The menu serving up next! My colleagues are so familiar with this place, that they don’t even really read through it! :) I am all so EXCITED! Can you feel it? Have i mentioned before? I really love those old and ulu place! because i sincerely believe these are the places with all the GOOD FOOD! ;)

IMG_0763

Cold Cockles @ $6 (Rating: 4.0/5.0)

IMG_0765

This cold cockle is a MUST eat dish! I love the overdose of garlic with the chilipadi! woooolaaalaaa… Must eat it while it is COLD! Heard that if you come during the cockle season, you will get those big cockles! Wha i can imagine how shiock it will be! :)

Butter Pork Rib @ $12 (Rating:4.0/5.0)

IMG_0766

According to a girl, name Jessie, this is her FAVOURITE! IT IS A MUST TRY! oh those white cheesy flour look alike are actually BUTTER! this is SO GOOD! Plus if you dip it with the cockle sauce, EXECELLENT!

Pork Floss Prawn @ $15 (Rating: 2.8/5.0)

IMG_0768

This pork floss prawn is nice! i wouldn’t say it is super yummy or a must try, but it is really better than those usual stall you found outside. Nothing really special, as many zhi char are selling this exact same dish… the one thing that differentiate this dish from others stall, it has a lot of mayo!

Golden Mushroom Tofu @ $10 (Rating: 2.5/5.0)

IMG_0770

Those Golden Mushroom, Shitakae Mushroom lovers, you would love this dish! Okay i rated it normal… The least favorite compared to the rest that i have ordered.

3 eggs mixed vegetable soup @ $8 (Rating: 2.5/5.0)

IMG_0772

I am not too sure if you had tried this dish at other stall…they have three different kinds of eggs mixed with vegetable and served with soup. Not too salty, it taste very sweet and healthy feeling! (okay i bluff, cos i haven really like any vegetable)

IMG_0774

The most amazing thing about this stall is… they served up all the dishes that i have mentioned above in 5mins time! WHA FAST AND EFFICIENT! my colleagues were so funny, they actually timed how long our food would come..

IMG_0775

See it? Evidence! :)

I would recommend this great place with very affordable pricing, very nice food and very efficient staffs! Actually, most importantly, the food is special! :) Love the food and love the people sharing with me this wonderful meal! Do call in to make reservation early for weekends!

Thai Gold Food @ Sunshine Plaza

I believe many tired Ah Loy Thai Food at Shaw Tower! To me, Ah Loy is not really original, but rather a little compromised and very local-ish… (pardon me for coming with such a word!)…

To do you justification, i would now recommend you to a CHEAP, GOOD and ORIGINAL thai food! (“you pi you qi” – hokkien translation for cheap and good!) Today, i present to you…. Sunshine Plaza! (Lame right? When my title is shouting out LOUD to you!) haahaa… anyway… there are two outlets at Sunshine, but due to time and stomach constraint, i would recommend one by one…

THAI GOLD FOOD

IMG_0739

This outlet is the older outlet… although the crowd is lesser compared to the other one… (can i comment sth? haahaa… look at the first two ladies, trying to hide from my camera! Okay, actually i am the one who is asking them to lower their head! But they look stunningly amusing right?) For our body’s well being, we didn’t order too much… cos sometime too much spoil the taste!

Thai Pineapple Rice (Rating: 2/5)

IMG_0734

The taste of the pineapple rice is a little bland… Some parts of the rice are not well mixed… Generous with their pineapples and pork floss… Overall, not too bad… With more pork floss would be good! :)

Pad Thai (Rating: 3.5/5)

IMG_0735

i really like this dish! Even from afar when the waitress brought in the noodle, the smell had already appealed to my stomach! :) Love the generous ingredients! But the bean sprout is a little too raw! Would be great if they can put it in last and stir fry a little! NICE ONE!

Seafood Soup (Rating 2/5)

IMG_0737

Actually this soup is not too bad, just a little too sour for my liking… Initially the taste was okay, but too much and after some time, it become more and more sour… Ingredient was okay… Two prawns, fish, squid, fish ball… Reasonable price for such a big bowl of soup…

Pandan Chicken (Rating: 2/5)

IMG_0738

Compared to Ah Loy, these Pandan chicken are a little smaller… There are 6 pcs for everyone and each portion is just nice… I think Ah Loy’s Pandan Chicken are a little too dry, these are okay… Chili taste good too!

Overall, with one Thai Milk Tea plus Coke and above dishes… It adds up to $26.80… Reasonable price and good food… Oh well… i would like to try the other outlet before i give more comments… Though i remember vividly visiting the next stall…

Okay! If you ask me whether would i visit the same stall… I would say maybe… The price is reasonable, why not? Oh well… before any questions ask, don’t expect too much from this humble little thai food company.
